Tips & Tricks For Working From Home
Salaam everyone!
The current pandemic has changed the way we work, and most people are working remotely or working from home. We know how difficult it can be to work from home with the kids and husband at home.
There are so many things that need your attention within one hour. Our blog post will give you some tips and tricks to help you manage your time while working from home and minimize distractions. This article will also provide tips to help you make time for your family - because family comes first!
If you've recently started working from home or if you've landed a job that allows you to work remotely, then you may need to establish a routine and create new habits.
Creating good habits will let you be more effective and productive on the job. It will allow you to get more done in as little time as possible.
One of the main ideas to have boundaries for work and personal life - it is important not to mix both of them.
- Keep to your regularly scheduled hours.
It is easy to switch your hours because you can wake up later and you don't need time to get ready. Working from home has a lot of benefits, and one of them is flexibility - which can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on your use of it. It is best to stick to your current schedule, such as working every day from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Keeping a good routine will allow you to be more productive in your morning hours.
- Schedule breaks and walk around.
One of the more challenging tasks of working from home is that you can continuously work on your assignment or project and not get up from your chair for hours.
The best habit for your overall health and body is to get up every hour for five to ten minutes. You can also take phone calls or conferences while standing up or walking around your room.
This habit will give you some exercise while you work. It is also an excellent habit to take your regularly scheduled breaks and take them in their entirety.
This habit will relax your mind and body and give it a break from work.
- Get out and get some fresh air.
It is advisable to get out of the house, walk around and get some fresh air. This technique is not always possible in the winter months, but it is possible now as the temperatures are getting better in Canada.
Don't go to any crowded places but you could go for a quick stroll around your neighbourhood. The sun and fresh air will calm you and give you some extra energy for the rest of your day.
- Posture & Ergonomic Setup.
It is easy to let your posture go when you're working from home. Remind yourself by setting the alarm on your phone to correct your posture every thirty minutes.
Once you get into this habit, then you won't need constant reminders, and it will improve your posture. It is also easy to sit on the sofa or bed all-day. The best approach is to use a desk and ergonomic chair for your working hours.
- Look for Training Courses, Conferences or Webinars.
When you don't have any work to do, then talk to your manager about any additional training courses, conferences or webinars that you could attend. Use this time to grow professionally and improve your skills during your free time.
This opportunity to work on your self and improve comes around once in a while - so use it!
Remember also to use some time to reflect and enhance your mental health. Also, a friendly reminder to only take online courses, webinars or conferences - definitely does not hold or schedule any in-person training sessions.
- Five Prayers and Daily Adhkar.
Remember to pray your five daily prayers and do your morning and evening adkhar whenever you get a chance. This flexibility allows you to make more time for worship. Instill some good habits right now because Ramadan is right around the corner, and these habits will go a long way in the future, too, inshaAllah!
Make lots of dua and remember your relatives and friends in duas.
- Be Optimistic
Take this time to build positive habits, think positively and be positive in all your communications with your colleagues. Sprinkle some emojis and smiley faces into your emails to not sound rude or severe.
Make it more fun and light to communicate with your colleagues in writing.
- Practice Good Hygiene & Social Distancing
Remember to practice good hygiene and dress well even when you are working from home. You will instantly feel more energy when you're well dressed and ready for work.
This practice will allow you to be more productive and focused during your working hours. Also, remember to practice social distancing as recommended by public health officials. Also, wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer.
- Scheduling your day around kids
The best approach for anyone would be to rise as early as possible and get the most work done before the kids get up. As you have probably heard, the early bird gets the worm!
This is the best time to get your bigger tasks done - other shorter tasks such as answering emails or phone calls can be done later in the day!
Final Tips
Your well-being is the most important, so make some time for yourself and your family. Focus on your physical health, mental health and spiritual health whenever you get a chance.
Don't focus too much on the news. I am not saying that you should stay away from it completely but schedule a specific time or a limit that you will spend on the news channel. Try to get your daily updates and then watch a program that is light, funny, entertaining or helps you relax. Try to watch a positive lecture or comedy video to get your mind off the news.
Keep in touch with family and friends over the phone or video chat. Take care and please reach out to our customer support team if you have any questions!
